Less short version

How did you cope with the heat?

Today was a seriously hot day with a hot morning and the temperatures rising to the mid 30s during the afternoon.

So, there were three rides on offer, which were shortened for the 16 intrepid Holt Drive heroic cyclists.

Who?

Ian led an eclectic band of riders with six others, Andrew (myself), Betty, Matt, Mick, Myles and Peter back from a few weeks abroad.

Where?

We headed out to Millie's, always a fantastic location sitting outside in the shade and enjoying their as always excellent offerings.

Due to the heat we must have stayed there for ages outside under cover.

There was the usual fabulous and incisive discussions including the derivation of such classics as “Hey Jude”, “Let it Be” and “Your So Vain”.

What was your route?

Out to Millie's… through the Meadows, across to Coates and Walton on the Wolds and along Paudy Lane.

Back from Millie’s. … Through Barrow and Quorn.

Generally the roads were in decent condition although an area of road surface in Barrow had been chipped (surface dressed) between the “dinosaur” roundabout and the bridge.

Ian allowed us a hydration break, after 22 and a half minutes.. he'd obviously been following the World Cup with their breaks for hydration!!

When did you get back?

Around midday after 14 miles on the road.

Why did you go out?

(It was hot!!)

And were your expectations met?

Great company 👍
Great coffee shop 👍
Exercise 👍
Home before too hot 👍

Short Ride 2

Report by John

After the other rides had departed, just John, John N. and Mike remained for a short ride to the Garden Centre at Cossington.

The riders headed south down the old A6 through Quorn, Mountsorrel and Rothley ascending over the Western Bypass to descend to Birstall before turning north through Watermead Park.

Arriving at Tea Garden Cafe, they decided to stay inside and take advantage of the air conditioning.

Duly cooled and refreshed the riders returned via Sileby, Mountsorrel and Quorn.
