Short Ride
Report by John
A rather dull morning with rain showers forecast produced a reduced turnout with 3 groups departing Holt Drive.
John offered a ride to Jades in Newtown Linford and was joined by John N. and Dennis with late arrivals Eric and Matt adding to the numbers.
The riders set out through Shelthorped and on south through Quorn and then climbed Wood Lane past the Quarry and on to Rothley Station. Here they turned south east along Station Road to Cropston where they turned north onto Reservoir Road and met Ian's group coming south.

The group then turned into Bradgate Park and negotiated several crocodiles of school children exploring the Park.

After partaking of the excellent refreshments at Jades the riders returned via Swithland, Woodhouse and Quorn with riders dropping off at various points.

Where did you go?
We went out to Stonehurst Farm at Mountsorrel, one of my favorite locations with splendid seating indoors and outdoors - outside was our preferred option as it was warm and actually rather humid.

The refreshments were as always splendid, the carrot cake with strawberries, raspberries and walnuts looks absolutely fantastic.
At this stage a chicken (well it is Stonehurst Farm) arrived looking for scraps under our table and around our feet!!
How did you get there and back?
There … out to Quorn and turn right, then picked the road up to Woodhouse with a left turn at the church (pot hole still not repaired).
Then it was turn right at Swithland and upto Cropston Reservoir, towards Anstey and Thurcaston.
Then it was along The Ridings and the steep decline, with an opportunity to test the brakes, along Halstead Road into Mountsorrel and our much anticipated refreshments stop.
Back … along the old A6 through Quorn
When did you get back?
About 1215 after approximately 21 miles, in time for the delayed start of Day 1 of the New Zealand test match from The Oval!!
