Short Ride

Report by John C.

Dennis, Dom, Rosalind, Clyde, Fiona, Myles, Ian and Andrew decided to join John on a ride to Millie's Cafe on the Salt Way.

The riders head out through Loughborough to Stanford before turning south through Cotes and taking Walton Lane and Barrow Road to Burton. The group then headed north to Wymeswold leaving the village via Narrow Lane.

They then turned left onto Melton Road to Paudy Lane and a gentle descent to the excellent refreshments at Millie's.

The riders took the short route back to Loughborough via Barrow arriving just after noon.

Medium Ride

Report by John N.

John, David, Mick, Marcus, Robert, Margaret, Betty, Keith and Bryan set off as usual on a bright, fresh morning through the Shelthorpe estate, a bit of a maze which John navigated with a little help from David to get us to the Aldi roundabout. Then on a tried and tested route over the Great Central railway and down through Quorn turning right up Wood Lane and on to Swithland.

In Swithland we turned left up Leicester Lane, then right at the end onto Bradgate Road, then right again to bring us up past Bradgate park's NorthEast entrance. It was then a long steady climb up to the top of Joe Moores Lane.

I think most people were relieved when we turned left to go along Benscliffe Road rather than straight on up Priory Lane. At the end of Benscliffe Road it was right onto Sharply hill for the lovely long downhill glide into Newtown Linford and the Jade cafe. I threw one or two people off by mistakenly turning into the Park cafe...never done that before! But we did end up at Jades.

We came back though Bradgate (slowly, the sun had brought quite few people out) then via Cropston and Rothely, down the Ridgeway and the Ridings and though Swithland for a second time, this time going all the way through and on to Woodhouse, where we lost Bryan who went off down Beaumanor Drive to get back via the woods.

The group made their own way back from Quorn where I peeled off. The route was about 27 miles.
